New for 2026 is the Vaughn Ion Pro Select Goalie Chest Protector.  Gone is the SLR name and this line is now the Ion line. Based off the SLR series of years past but built to new specs that goalies are asking for. The Vaughn Ion Pro Select Chest Protector is built for the coverage style or butterfly style goalies want but with way more mobility than other larger chest protectors in the goalie market today. The Ion Pro Select chest protector is built with large, squared shoulder floaters that maximize shoulder width in the net.  Although the shoulders are larger, the arms still have a great range of motion compared to other coverage style chest protectors.  Vaughn also added a second layer of protection built underneath the shoulder floaters, this second layer is velcro’d in and can easily be taken out or put back in.  Compared to the SLR4 models, this second layer is way more streamlined and less bulky than the older models

We felt that the Ion Chest Protector in general is way more contoured to the goalie’s body then past SLR generations.  The unit sit nice and tight to the body without creating additional dead air bulk in the body.  The shoulder floaters sit very natural and contoured to the goalies’ shoulders.  This eliminates any mask and shoulder floater interference when the goalie turns their head side to side.

The Ion Pro Select Chest & Arm protector uses the highest density foams with carbon reinforcement for better coverage and better overall protection.  The arms (forearm and bicep) have added reinforcement – especially the biceps, the ION is much more protective than past models.  The forearm and bicep area have a newly designed full wrap around protection.  This upper arm is protected with more foams to help with goalies getting hit in the upper back of the arm in the reverse VH position.

The sternum area of the Ion Pro Select uses the Pure Composite foam that Vaughn has had great success in the past.  Pure Composite foam is a composite injected foam that is incredibly light and extremely protective, it does not lose its shape or protection level over time compared to traditional foams.
