Brian’s Optik X3 Junior Goalie Leg Pads

The new Brian’s Optik X3 Intermediate goalie leg pads are designed for a high level (generally teenage) goalie looking for top level performance. The Brian’s X3 are made for youth goalies playing A thru AAA travel levels.  Based on the very popular Brian’s Optik 3 graphic, the X3 provides a pro level look at intermediate sizing.

The Brian’s X3 goes to a thinned-out profile for 2023 with no break in the vertical roll.  Since the profile has been thinned out, no break is necessary to add flexibility. A pre-molded s-shape allows the Optik X3 to seal the five hole for goalies that have narrower and medium width butterfly coverage. Generally younger goalies need more flexibility in their pads since they are smaller therefore making everything more compacted compared to a taller adult goalie.  The more compacted a goalie gets, the harder it gets to move.  Therefore, a pad with more flexibility is needed at these younger ages.

On the inside of the pad, Brian’s uses the very popular primo material on the inner edges.  The primo inner edge provides improved slidability and makes lateral movements while in the various butterfly techniques much easier with less effort.  The inner binding on the Optik X3 has also been recessed to reduce friction.

Another feature of the Optik X3 leg pads is the Smart Cord bungee toe tie system.  Gone is the big, clunky elastic straps that Brian’s used in the past.  This style (cord) tow tie allows for maximum flexibility and attach angle while the goalie is in their butterfly techniques.  The cord can be adjusted to any skate size.

The X3 has a slightly wider than average leg channel.  The leg channel can be custom fitted with adjustable elastic straps in the knee and calf areas.  The foot scoop of the Brian’s X3 leg pads utilizes a softer boot which allows goalies a great range of motion while in recovery movements and general skating movements.  This added range of motion has become extremely popular over the past few years.  The Optik X3 comes with a Smart Boot strap under the heel.  This nylon webbing design is very user friendly with a velcro design that allows the goalies to secure and take off in seconds.

Brian’s Optik X3 Junior Goalie Catch Glove

New for 2023 is the Brian’s Optik X3 junior goalie catch glove. This glove is ideal for younger goalies (generally 8 to 12 years olds) that play Rec thru AAA travel hockey levels. The break of the glove has a 40 degree closure angle.  Internally the Optik X3 glove uses a no slip SBA synthetic interior liner material.  This material allows the goalie to gain more control with their fingers and palm while squeezing the glove.  The Optik X3 uses a traditional nylon wrist strap which is surrounded by a large SBA floating pad, this allows the goalie to lock down the glove with comfort. Across the back of the hand is another locking strap which is surrounded with a large padded air-knit material. The finger stalls also utilize an air-knit material for durability and comfort.  The catching surface has a huge single t pocket with a deep thumb angle makes catching the puck very easy on this glove. Proportionately, Brian’s has done a very good job scaling this glove down compared to the intermediate size.

Brian’s Optik X3 Junior Goalie Blocker

New for 2023 is the Brian’s Optik X2 senior goalie blocker. The Brian’s Optik X2 Goalie Blocker features a large high density blocking board with a beveled nose which helps a goalies main stance and provide better seal to the ice when paddle down.  The Optik X2 blocker also uses an internal lace sidewall which makes this blocker more streamlined compared to the previous generations. A seamless binding face allows for maximum surface coverage. The palm of the Brian’s Optik X2 blocker uses a No Slip SBA Synthetic Palm Material.  In the wrist strap area, the X2 uses a flared cuff for added wrist mobility.  An adjustable velcro strap across the back of the wrist allows the goalie to customize how tight or loose they prefer the fit of the blocker.
