Vaughn Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Leg Pads

New for 2022 is the third generation of the popular Ventus SLR line from Vaughn.  The Vaughn Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon line was designed based on the advice of NHL and NCAA goalies and their experiences with the SLR2 gear.  These goalies are generally taller and want a stiffer type of pad for increased blocking surface.  Goalies such as Darcy Kuemper and Tristian Jarry are great examples of goalies who prefer the new Ventus SLR3 pads. (For goalies under six feet tall or goalies that want a softer design, Goalies Plus can custom order this type of construction). A stiffer upper profile with one break below the knee combined with a softer boot break allows these goalie to perform at the top of their game.  The SLR2 was considered a bit too soft for the taller goalies (six feet tall and above) so the SLR3 Pro Carbon pads have been stiffened to accommodate these types of goalies.  Vaughn will also be using the Pure Composite core material in the Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon Leg Pads.

Some of the new features is the SLR3 Pro Carbon pads are a stiffer section from the bottom of the knee break to the top with more of an L-Shape profile as apposed to an S-Shape profile design.  In the shin area of the Ventus SLR3 leg pads, the use of the Pure Composite core combined with a carbon fiber layer provide the most explosive rebounds Vaughn has ever produced.  Pure composite is also used on the inner edges for a firmer perimeter. The vertical roll (outer roll) is now a triangular design which eliminates weight and increases rebound control. A softer boot flex allow for maximum ankle mobility when the goalie is utilizing various butterfly techniques.  The back of the pad has also been changed for 2022.  The Ventus SLR3 leg pads will have a more complete wrap around protection compared to previous generations.  This pad  will provide the most protection to this area possible.  The leg channel of the SLR3 has also been widened for 2022.  The Ventus SLR3 will continue to use the extremely popular Quick Slide on the inner edge surfaces.  Quick Slide is considered by many goalies to be the fastest sliding material in the hockey industry today. Vaughn will continue to use bungee toe ties which allow the toe of the pad to stretch from the toe of the skate with an elastic type effect.  This stretching and recoiling improves the recovery process of a goalie but also takes pressure off the goalies ankles, knees and hips because it eliminates the quick stop and jerk process that skate lace has when it runs out of slack.

Vaughn Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon Goalie Catch Glove

New for 2022 is a redesigned SLR3 goalie catch glove.  The Vaughn SLR2 was a very good goalie catch glove but had a unique feel off the shelf.  Once heat molded, it took its shape much better however most goalies didn’t get to that point.  The SLR3 has a much more classic Vaughn feel right out of the box with a more balanced feel then previous generations.  The SLR3 Pro Carbon glove is still heat moldable. This glove will also be the lightest catch glove in the Vaughn line currently.

The Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon glove will come with a one piece cuff design that adds rigidity to the blocking area of the glove.  On the back side of the cuff, Vaugh flared the glove design which allows for wrist mobility.  Vaughn also moved the padded wrist strap on the back of the hand closer to the hand which again allows for maximum wrist mobility.

In the palm area, the SLR3 has an additional raised foam called Shock Shield which allows the glove to be broken in more naturally while having a reinforced protection in the palm. Vaughn  also uses a carbon fiber molded palm instead of a plastic molded palm on the SLR3 Pro Carbon glove.  Carbon fiber can take much more abuse then a plastic mold.  A traditional plastic molded palm will start to flatten out over time from shots to the palm, which then gives the glove a very odd look and feel.  By using carbon fiber, the mold doesn’t change over time. There is also an inner layer of Kevlar in the palm for added protection.

The internal portion of the Vaughn Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon glove has an Antimicrobial treatment.  The pack of the glove has high density HD foams to protect the back of the hand.  A reinforced perimeter allows the glove to keep its original shape over time.

On the stock versions of the SLR3 Pro Carbon, the glove will come with a single t design.  However on the Goalies Plus models, they will come standard with a double t pocket.

New for 2022 is the Vaughn SLR3 Pro Carbon goalie blocker.  The Ventus SLR3 blocker features many of the specs that the majority of goalies prefer.  This blocker can be used by either a hybrid or butterfly style goalie. The high density foams used in the Ventus SLR3 blocker make it extremely light weight and well balanced.  With a large bindingless surface, the SLR3 takes up the maximum allowed surface area under NHL, NCAA, USA Hockey, Hockey Canada and IIHF rules. The Vaughn Ventus SLR3 blocker is structured to take away the shooting angle and provide optimum rebound control.  The new finger area provides an index finger trigger design which helps the goalie control the paddle of the goalie stick more effectively when they are in their ready position.   Vaughn designed the Ventus SLR3 blocker with a wide wrist opening to enhance puck control when stick handling.  The neoprene flex inner hand allows for more feel comfort and protection.
